This magnificent colourful postcard of the Argyll Arcade was captured and created in 1908, back when the Arcade had a wider variety of both jewellery & clothing stores.

The Arcade once had even more Victorian detailing throughout, with outter cabinets and uniform tradional store fronts. This is one of the oldest photos captured of the Arcade.

Mr Harold’s Father, Maurice Groundland, was the first generation to begin the family legacy in the world of jewellery. During the roaring 20s, he opened ‘Groundland The City Jeweller’ on Glasgow’s High street.

Maurice once had a store in the centre of the arcade, selling a vast array of silver jewellery. This rare photo gives you another glimpse into the arcade from the 1960s.

As part of the expansion of the jewellery stores throughout Glasgow. Harold, along with his brothers, looked after many stores from High Street, Argyll Arcade & also this Shawlands store during the 1970s.

Before Mr Harold, the store was named James Craig. Harold & his family ran this store from 1950s until 1983.

Mr Harold

In 1983, Harold finally opened his own store under his name 'Mr Harold'. He ran this with his Son Samuel. The store was previously called James Craig, which the family looked after for years prior to 1983.

A young Samuel with his father Harold, outside the then Mr Harold store, before it gained it's iconic green exterior. An impressive clock once hung proudly in the centre of the Arcade.

ALADDINS CAVE

in the 90's the store gained its now iconic British racing green & gold. The vast array of gold jewellery in the windows gave us the fun nickname of Glasgow's 'Alladins Cave'.

The store was renamed to ‘Mr Harold & Son’, leaving Samuel’s mark on the business – the third generation. Here pictured is a photo with our older green interior, which was later changed to brown & cream to brighten the shop floor. Our now iconic green exterior has remained.

Samuel's wife joined the family business in the 1989, here is a young Yvonne pictured in the early 2000s, surrounded by our green & gold traditonal furniture.

This was the last photo taken of Harold in the Arcade, back in 2009, before he passed in 2011. He was always known for his smart suits, newspaper under his arm and his warm presence outside the shop.

The shop got a re-fresh in 2012 , going from green carpet & wallaper to brown & cream to give the shop a brighter, warmer look for our customers, still keeping the very traditional feel.

We celebrated 30 years of Mr Harold & Son in 2013. By then, Harold's grandchildren )(the fourth generation) joined the business, with Daniel, Candice & Monica.
